Arang
ARANG (아랑)
Song Yoon Ah and Lee Dong Wook
Song Yoon Ah and Lee Dong Wook
I've just finished watching this movie. I thought I had to wait months before I could watch this. Perhaps I had to wait for ABS-CBN's action whatsoever. I knew this movie because I was checking on Lee Dong Wook's discography and found out that he just had a movie, his debut one. I didn't know it. He's been a tv actor for years then I'd read "his debut movie"? I was really suprised. So I thought it'd be interesting. I wanted to know how he acts in the big screen.
The heroine of this movie, So Young, was played by Song Yoon Ah. I saw her in some of Arang's trailers and I thought there's something about her that's interesting. I found out one of them. I saw a picture of hers that made us look alike. *lol* I thought I was just having an imagination, but someone agreed. =p
Okay. Back to business.

The review:
This movie has two/three genre: suspense/thriller and horror. I'd say it's both a half-success and a loss. It did well as a thriller, but failed as a horror movie. Our own Sukob did better. No. I should not compare both films. It's unfair to Direk Chito Roño.
Just thinking over, I think the reason why I said it's half-successful as a thriller was my failure to point out something crucial in thriller stories. I think it's an evidence that I've been NOT reading novels for a long time. >_< I wonder if Arang is a book, would I be able to point out what I missed? Maybe I just lost tract of the movie's time so I wasn't able to reckon some things. Yes, I did lost tract of the movie's time because I was trying to focus on how SYA and LDW did their acts in this movie.
This is Lee's debut movie and I could say he tried to do his best. I saw no trace of My Girl's Seol Gong Chan or Hanoi Bride's Eun Woo. Thank goodness! But he did reminded me of a music video where he was featured.
So Young's character was not in par with the female cops I've read in novels. Something's missing. I don't know. Maybe I'll find it out if I start reading novels again.
By the way, Kim Ok Bin was also featured in this movie. She appeared at the first part.
