The King and The Clown
I already finished watching this film. Two-thumbs up! I've learned a lot from it. And I am grateful because I was able to watch this for free. ^_^V
This film is about two jesters who came into the palace to mock the king. Eventually, the king favoured to Gong-gil, a shy and feminine looking man. I'd say the story is filled with sadness. There was horror in it in the sense that everyone has his personal demons, but it's still sad. I feel pity for the king. And I am sorry for Gong-gil and his partner. Life is cruel, but jesters look at it as if it's just a stage, a performance.
Starring the film are Lee Jun-ki as Gong-gil, Kam Woo-seong as Jang-seng, Jeong Jin-yeong as King Yonsan, and Kang Seong-yeon as Nok-su, the king's consort.
From Wikipedia.com
The King and the Clown (왕의 남자, Wang ui Namja) is a 2005 South Korean film, adapted from the 2000 Korean play titled "Yi", ("You") about Yeonsangun of Joseon, a Joseon Dynasty king who falls in love with a court clown who mocks him. The movie is based on a small passage from the Annals of the Joseon Dynastythat briefly mentions the king's favorite clown. It is the highest grossing (over $85,000,000 in domestic receipts) Korean film in history with 12.3 million viewers, surpassing total admissions of Silmido and Taegukgi . Production costs were relatively modest for a Korean film, approximately $4.5 million dollars.
